Gary M. Myers

Gary Myers is a senior shareholder of the Davis Brown Law Firm in the Business Division. He is also the Chair of the Real Estate Department. He has a general practice in but not limited to Commercial Real Estate and Business Transactions.

SUMMARY

He has experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, including the acquisition, sale, financing, leasing, and land use regulation of commercial real estate.  In particular, he has been involved in the acquisition, sale and financing of several apartment complexes. 

REPRESENTATIVE ENGAGEMENTS

Gary was one of the attorneys who successfully argued before the Iowa Supreme Court that counties are pre-empted from regulating animal feeding operations under Iowa state law. Gary has assisted with real estate aspects of business transactions for various agri-business, telecommunication and commercial real estate clients, including reviewing loan documents and issuing opinion letters for borrowers involving USDA, RUS, RTFC, FNMA, and conduit loan transactions.  He has also frequently acted as local counsel and issued opinion letters for commercial loan transactions involving Iowa real estate and out-of-state borrowers and lenders.

In connection with his real estate practice, Gary has also worked with clients on various environmental law issues, in particular issues relating to agri-business clients and animal feeding operations. 

COMMUNITY

Gary currently serves as a Director of Employee & Family Resources, Inc., a non-profit corporation that administers a nationwide mental health and substance abuse assessment service to employers through its Employee Assistance Program and that provides local services in the Polk County, Iowa area through a variety of programs designed to enhance the emotional and behavioral well being of individuals, families, organizations and communities.
