
CONCENTRATION
Kelly Deters is an associate of the Davis Brown Law Firm. She joined the Business Division in August 2007 and has a general practice including but not limited to the areas of Business Organization and Transactions and Telecommunications and Utilities.
SUMMARY
Kelly advises clients on matters related to general corporate governance and business transactions. She assists clients with the formation, operation and liquidation of business entities and drafts, analyzes and reviews contracts and corporate documents. In addition, she advises telecommunications clients on state and federal regulatory issues and assists with state and federal filings.
ACADEMICS
In 2007, Kelly received her law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law, graduating with highest distinction. At Iowa, Kelly was a Merit Scholar Fellowship recipient and was elected to the Order of the Coif. She was also a research assistant for Professor James Tomkovicz and a member of the Iowa Law Review.
In July 2007 her note "The ‘Evaporation Point’: State vs. Sykes and the Erosion of the Fourth Amendment Through the Search-Incident-to-Arrest Exception" was published in the Iowa Law Review.
She earned her bachelor's degree in history with a minor in political science from Northwestern University in 2004, graduating summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.
