On May 22, 2003, Wittmack was the first Iowan to summit Mount Everest. He attempted the infamous "Peak and Pond" in August 2008, but was pulled from the water. In July 2010, he will embark upon the 12-month World Triathlon including a swim in the English Channel, bicycling nearly 12,000 miles from France to Nepal, and ascend Mount Everest.

The award presentation took place in the Secretary of State's Office in the Capitol Building in Des Moines, presided over by Iowa Secretary of State, Michael Mauro, and Iowa Juneteenth Observance General Chairperson, Gary Lawson. Polk County Auditor, Jamie Fitzgerald also received the award.

Kelly is a Senior Shareholder in the Litigation Division with a General Litigation practice including Family law, Military law, Complex Commercial Litigation and Arbitration, Federal Statutory Defense, Commercial Disputes, Real Property Litigation and he serves as a Polk County Bar Association Family law mediator.  Kelly along with the Honorable Peter Keller, Peter Welch and Gregory Greiner were the speakers for the 136th Annual Meeting of the Iowa Bar Association for Military/Family Law.

Scott is a senior shareholder in the firm’s Litigation Division.  He has a litigation practice, representing clients in Construction Litigation, Business Litigation, and Administrative Matters.

He served as Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party as the state kicked off the 2008 Presidential Caucuses with a resounding success story for the state and President Barak Obama.  As the face and voice of the Iowa Democratic Party during the 2008 elections, he helped build a strong coalition with the Republican Party to assume retention of Iowa’s first in the nation status for 2008, while managing a difficult debate with New Hampshire’s leadership over caucus positioning.  The Iowa Democratic caucuses were a resounding success with a record turnout of 240,000, doubling the previous record in 2004. 

After graduation from Grinnell College, he served for several years as an aide to United States Senator Tom Harkin in Washington, D.C.  After completing law school at the University of Iowa, he established his legal practice with Davis, Brown, Koehn, Shors & Roberts, P.C.  Within the firm he has held numerous leadership positions including President of the Board of Directors for 2004 and 2005.  He has been recognized by Iowa Super Lawyers 2009.  Brennan continues to be active in his community and profession;  recognized as a Forty Under 40 by the Des Moines Business Record in 2001, Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute graduate in 2002, President of the Polk County Bar Association in 2008-2009, and Leadership Iowa graduate in 2000.

Wittmack gave the commencement address to 334 graduates at the Des Moines Theodore Roosevelt High School's ceremonies on Saturday, May 23, 2009. He spoke about his adventures including climbing Mount Everest and his attempt to swim the English Channel in August, 2008.

He also spoke and received an Honorary Degree from The Academy, a private K-8 school at the former Des Moines Science Center, on Friday, May 29, 2009. "With all the controversy surrounding honorary degrees this year, I'm honored to be recognized for once again fulfilling the requirements to complete the eighth grade," Wittmack said.
